I was raised in a musical family. Everyone plays an instrument and sings. I remember thinking as a kid, "What instrument am I going to play first?". The option of not playing one never even entered my mind! I started on piano, fell in love with choir, then studied saxophone. In high school, I found the guitar and synthesizer, and spent my spare time writing songs. After college, I devoted my time to songwriting. I co-founded a rock band, toured regionally and co-authored two albums (one with Todd on drums).
Now, to continue the story, I must tell you this story first...
I am a youngest child. This means that when I was 5, I desperately wanted to be a big brother! I begged my Mom and Dad to have another baby! When they didn't, I had to find baby brothers and sisters on my own. I think that is why I love to teach and be around children.
Okay, back to the first story...
We all know that rock-n-roll musicians don't make any money, so to pay the bills, I decided to teach children (go figure!). In 1991, I found a job at The Little Gym where I taught movement and fitness programs to children ages 1 to 11. By 1997, I had married the gym director, had a son, left the rock band and bought the business. Two years later, urged by my wife and inspired by the hundreds of children I had taught, I began writing children's music. This led to a new career for me, one that combined two things I enjoy most: working with children and playing music. In 2000, my wife and I sold the business and I began my life as a full-time children's musician! When I am not performing with my band, I like to teach Music & Movement classes to children.
